‘A Man on the Inside’ season 2 (Netflix)
Mike Schur’s crime caper is back, and this time Ted Danson’s Charles Nieuwendyk is swapping retirement-home detective work for campus intrigue. When the university president (Max Greenfield) lands in the crosshairs of a blackmail plot, Charles steps back into his old professor role to sniff out the culprit.
The roster of suspects grows quickly — including a blustery billionaire alum (Gary Cole) — and Charles is distracted by Mona (Mary Steenburgen), the free-spirited music instructor who awakens emotions he thought were packed away for good. He can solve a mystery, sure … but is he open to love?

‘The Mighty Nein’ (Prime Video)
Set years after “The Legend of Vox Machina,” “The Mighty Nein” follows a ragtag band of outlaws who’d much rather stay under the radar — until destiny has other ideas. When a reality-bending relic falls into the wrong hands, these misfits are thrust into a responsibility they’ve spent their lives avoiding.
Darker in tone and deeper in character than its predecessor, the animated series features voices like Mark Strong, Ming-Na Wen and Alan Cumming. Reluctant heroes or not, this crew just might be the realm’s last hope against total chaos.

‘The Assassin’ (AMC Plus)
Keeley Hawes, the queen of British thrillers (see: “Bodyguard,” “Line of Duty”), leads this six-part series that has already aired in the U.K. A retired assassin’s tranquil Greek getaway is upended when her son (Freddie Highmore) shows up demanding answers — and instead gets a firsthand look at the secrets she’s been running from.

Who turns out to be the son of the brand’s founder. Suddenly, Sydney’s biggest deal gets very messy, and she finds herself juggling business and romance. Some bubbles just can’t be bottled.

‘Train Dreams’ (Netflix)
“Train Dreams” isn’t your typical Netflix original film; it’s quieter and more soulful. Joel Edgerton anchors this early-20th-century tale as Robert Grainier, a logger carving railroads through the wilderness while trying to hold together a life that keeps slipping out of reach.
Felicity Jones gives the story its quiet heartbeat, while Clint Bentley turns the Pacific Northwest into a place that feels both haunted and holy. It’s slow, sure, but also striking and beautifully made. If you want something that lingers longer than the weekend, this is the one.
