Just days after Amazon’s new Kindle Scribe Colorsoft went on sale, a potential competitor has emerged. TCL has lifted the covers of its upcoming Nxtpaper tablet, and it takes on Amazon’s offering with an 11.5-inch paper-like display and stylus support.

TCL’s Note A1 Nxtpaper aims to deliver a more eye-friendly alternative to tablets with glossy LCD panels, thanks to its Nxtpaper Pure display. Designed to mimic the look and feel of real paper, the panel promises reduced glare and a textured surface that makes writing feel more natural.

The tablet features built-in stylus support, and TCL claims that it offers enhanced handwriting input with minimal ghosting. It also includes a couple of AI-powered tools to improve the writing experience, like handwriting beautification and AI-assisted one-stroke handwriting formation.

According to TCL’s promotional material, the Note A1 also offers additional AI features for note-taking, meeting transcription, translation, summarization, and writing assistance. The tablet supports casting, cross-device transfers, and cloud backups as well, making it easier to share content and keep notes synced across devices.

Slim design with broad document support

The Note A1 Nxtpaper measures 260.1 x 196.6 x 5.5mm and weighs approximately 500g. It supports a wide range of document formats, including PDF, Word, PPT, PPTX, Excel, EPUB, TXT, MOBI, AZW3, CHM, HTML, FB2, RTF, CBZ, and CBE, which should give it a significant edge over the Kindle Scribe Colorsoft.

Although TCL has yet to share a definite release timeline, the company has confirmed that the tablet will soon be available at a starting price of $419 through Kickstarter.

By comparison, the Kindle Scribe Colorsoft is significantly more expensive, with prices starting at $629.99. While Amazon does offer a regular Kindle Scribe at a similar price point to the Note A1, it comes with a black-and-white display, which may not be ideal for users looking for color support and greater versatility.
