Using a pedometer app on your phone is the most convenient way to track your exercise, no matter where you are. Here are our favorite Android phone pedometer and step counter apps that’ll help you keep track of your daily steps all day.

This pedometer app is very much like the others in terms of function. You can use it to track the steps, miles walked, and calories burned throughout the day.

It includes a daily bar graph history of your progress. In addition, it serves as a tool to track water intake and weight. But what makes this app stand out is its unique blue theme and colorful icons.

This is another dark-themed pedometer app that is intuitive to use every day. Just set your step goals and use the large circular graphic on the main screen to track your progress throughout the day.

There are some banner ads on each menu, but no full-page ads. This app also includes notifications for steps, calories, distance, duration, and six accent colors to choose from for added customization.

    What We Like

    • Simple to use.

    • Runs in the background.

    • Good visual indicators.

    What We Don’t Like

    • Consumes more battery.

    • No web-based interface.

Google Fit is one of the easiest pedometer apps to use. It lets you see your step progress throughout the day at just a glance. The main screen shows your profile image with your progress toward your daily step goal as a round line graph.

The display also shows the number of steps, calories burned, and distance walked. The journal screen shows your past workout stats and a map of your walking track.

Another fun feature is Google Fit’s Paced Walking, which adds a gentle audio background beat to whatever you’re listening to, helping you boost your walking rate and earn additional Google Fit Heart Points.

    What We Don’t Like

    • Interface is not intuitive.

    • Must accept Samsung tracking policy.

    • Individual tools are easy to use.

Samsung Health is a well-known name in the health-tracking world. The Samsung Health app is not only for Samsung devices. The app works well on any phone and lets you track many health-related metrics.

These data points include steps, sleep quality, workouts, calorie intake, water, and weight. The app is free to use and contains no annoying nuisance ads.

Step tracker is a very simple pedometer app that helps you track both steps and mileage throughout the day.

An entire section of the app is devoted to a training tool that lets you set a target distance for your workout, with a GPS map showing your progress. However, the app does include several full-page and banner ads throughout.

    What We Like

    • Tracks walks in distance.

    • Includes workout tracking.

    • Tracks your location on a map.

MapMyWalk is one of the family of fitness apps originally created by Under Armour and rebranded under the Outside Inc. umbrella. It’s a more advanced pedometer app because it tracks the distance you’ve walked instead of just tracking steps.

Because it uses GPS to track your walk, it’ll also keep track of the path you’ve walked displayed on top of a map. The log lets you scroll back through your past workouts, and you can see your step count in the web-based profile.

Accupedo+ is one of the simplest pedometer apps on this list. You can view everything from steps and mileage to the history and the daily chart by scrolling down on the main screen.

You can share progress with your social networks but community activity is lacking. Full-page and banner ads are one major drawback of this otherwise very useful pedometer app.

    What We Like

    • Includes calorie burning tracker.

    • Nice bar graph step tracking.

    • Calendar style history of steps.

    What We Don’t Like

    • Many full page nuisance ads.

    • Many workout plans require subscription.

    • Limited third party app compatibility.

This app has a more graphical theme than most other pedometer apps. The main screen shows steps, calories, miles walked, and total walking time. The history report appears in an intuitive calendar format.

One drawback is that Pedometer has more full-page and banner ads than the other apps on this list. Many of the workout plans also require a paid subscription, but some free workouts are available.
