I ran 80 miles in the Asics Superblast 2 and I’ve never seen it discounted like this before

I test running shoes for a living and for a couple of years the Asics Superblast was the most exciting sneaker available. As a result it sold out pretty much immediately and getting hold of it at full price was a challenge, so it almost never appeared in sales.

Right now, however, you can get the Asics Superblast 2 for $149 in the Asics sale, a $50 saving on full price.

There are two reasons why you can now get the shoe on discount. The first is the arrival of the Asics Megablast last year. The Megablast is another brilliant Asics all-rounder that stole the custom of many runners who would have bought the Superblast 2.

The second is that Asics announced the Superblast 3 over the weekend, seemingly meaning that the brand has deemed it time to clear the Superblast 2 stocks it has available.

I tested the Asics Megablast vs the Asics Superblast 2 and I do slightly favour the Megablast myself, and the new Superblast 3 has a softer, springier midsole design than the Superblast 2, but that doesn’t mean the Superblast 2 is a bad running shoe.

At launch, I rated it as the most versatile running shoe available, with a comfortable but fast ride thanks to the massive stack of responsive foam in its midsole. As a fan of the shoe I’ve kept using it regularly since my initial review.

The main drawback with the shoe is its high price, and that’s now dropped by $50, making it a bit of a bargain compared with the Megablast and forthcoming Superblast 3, which will go on sale in early March.

You’re very unlikely to see discounts on the Megablast or Superblast 3 in the coming months too, and once this batch of the Superblast 2 is gone, I doubt it’ll be coming back, so if you’re in the market for a new daily trainer I’d jump on this deal while your size is available.
