The App Store Accountability Act (ASAA) is a proposed law in the US that would put the onus of age verification on app store developers. It looks to shift the responsibility of age verification from the individual app and website level to the distributors, with Apple and Google being first in the line of fire.Of course, the intent of this law is justified, but it has raised a lot of privacy concerns. This is because users have to hand over sensitive data to platforms like Apple and Google, which could be catastrophic if these companies were to suffer a data…

In its most basic form, a Snickers candy bar hits all the right notes. An airy nougat base, decadent caramel, crunchy peanuts, and creamy milk chocolate coating to tie it all together. It’s safe to say that Mars Inc. really knows what it’s doing. And while we love the iconic candy on its own, the winning combo makes desserts better, too. For example, when folded into Cool Whip, it makes a tasty salad that will have guests scraping the bowl in record time. And when piled onto brownies, it creates a rich, bakery-worthy square your family will request again and…

YouTube appears to have changed how it recommends Shorts, according to analysts who work with some of the platform’s largest channels. The shift reportedly began in mid-September and deprioritizes videos older than roughly 30 days, favoring more recent uploads. Mario Joos, a retention strategist who works with MrBeast, Stokes Twins, and Alan’s Universe, first identified the pattern after weeks of trying to explain a broad dip in performance across his clients. Dot Esports reports that Joos analyzed data across channels with 100 million to one billion monthly views and found a consistent drop in impressions for older Shorts. What The…

You know what they say: If at first you don’t succeed at mass government surveillance, try, try again. Only two days after India backpedaled on its plan to force smartphone makers to preinstall a state-run “cybersecurity” app, Reuters reports that the country is back at it. It’s said to be considering a telecom industry proposal with another draconian requirement. This one would require smartphone makers to enable always-on satellite-based location tracking (Assisted GPS).The measure would require location services to remain on at all times, with no option to switch them off. The telecom industry also wants phone makers to disable…

Have you ever wondered where in the world your twin is, or who you resemble in the celebrity world? A chatbot isn’t afraid to offend, so you might learn something new by asking AI rather than a friend. While finding your look-alike isn’t the most groundbreaking use case for AI, it is fun and entertaining — and that counts for something. We’ve certainly seen worse AI trends, like that AI action figure. If you’ve seen those “Who do I look like?” posts in the Reddit Doppelganger group, this is the same approach. You’re just asking AI, instead of random strangers on…

We all have nights where it feels like dinner isn’t going to happen. For my family, it’s typically when I have been going all day, it’s five o’clock. I don’t have a plan (and/or a good selection of groceries), but I still need to get dinner on the table. That’s why I’ve come to appreciate Costco’s Chicken Pot Pie so much. My son famously calls it “puppa pya,” which, honestly, makes it even sweeter and more comforting. It’s something I only buy once every two or three months, but when I do, I’m reminded of what a lifesaver it is.…

I-day streak on LinkedIn Games. Yes, LinkedIn also has games, and they’ve been around for over a year. From time to time, I notice new games, design tweaks, and new features being rolled out. As a Data Scientist, I have always wondered what LinkedIn is trying to achieve with LinkedIn Games and how they are testing the changes.  With AI augmenting and even automating many coding and basic analytics tasks, product sense and domain expertise become more and more important for data scientists. Therefore, in this article, I am using LinkedIn Games as an example to show how a Product…
