In this work, we address the largely unexplored problem of failure detection in multimodal contexts. We propose Adaptive Confidence Regularization (ACR), a novel framework specifically designed to detect multimodal failures. One in five Shorts that YouTube recommends to new users is low-quality, mass-produced AI-generated video, often described as “AI slop.” YouTube CEO Neal Mohan used that label himself in his January 2026 annual letter, pledging to build on YouTube’s spam and clickbait-detection systems to combat it.
