If you stand up for any part of your work day, a quality anti-fatigue mat that’s supportive and anti-slip can offer some essential comfort to stave off future aches and pains.

After applying some hands-on experience, testing, and research, these are the picks we think will offer the best experience for most people based on ergonomics, aesthetics, and budget.

Note: Prices are subject to change.

TL;DR: The Ergodriven Topo Comfort Mat is all about encouraging natural movement to reduce discomfort.

    Why We Recommend It

The ErogDriven Topo Comfort Mat tackles one of the chief drawbacks of standing for prolonged periods: not moving enough.

Available in two sizes, 29-by-26 inches and 25.2-by-19.2 inches, the Topo Comfort Mat is a dedicated standing desk mat built to keep you moving.

    Pros

    • Design promotes position changes

    • Can slide easily if you sit and stand

    • Mini size for users shorter than 5’4″

    • Works on low-pile carpet too

Like all anti-fatigue mats, the Topo uses a cushioned, anti-fatigue material, but the major distinction is the shapes and varied “terrain” of the mat.

The company says the different textures promote movement without even thinking about it.

For example, the heel indentation at the back could be used for stretching calves or pushing the mat away or toward a standing desk—with just one foot. And other raised areas offer opportunities to stretch and massage your feet.

If you’re shopping for a well-reviewed standing-desk-specific anti-fatigue mat, the Topo Mat is well worth a go.

    • Who else recommends it? Wirecutter, The Strategist, and Gear Lab also name the Topo Comfort Mat as a top pick to combat fatigue.
    • What do buyers think? Over 7,600 Amazon purchasers have weighed in to give the Topo Comfort Mat an average 4.6-star rating.

TL;DR: Keeps your feet supported in style.

    Why We Recommend It

While I don’t have direct experience with the House of Noa Nama Standing Mat, I can attest to the quality and support of the brand’s play mats, which we’ve purchased and used in our home for the last several years.

I imagine the Nama Standing Mat reflects that same quality but with the added benefit of anti-fatigue mat hallmarks, including high-density .75-inch foam and raised edges.

    Pros

    • Available in five size options

    • Numerous color variations to match decor

    • Made of supportive high-density foam

    • Coordinate with other House of Noa runners

The Nama Standing Mat also comes in over 30 neutral color palettes and in larger size variations beyond the typical standing mat size.

If you end up liking the quality, you could add one or two in your kitchen or other spaces.

However, this House of Noa mat comes with a premium price point that might not be realistic or appealing to everyone.

    • Who else recommends it? The Strategist and Good Housekeeping, among other outlets, also praise the Nama Standing Mat for its blend of comfort and design appeal.
    • What do buyers think? Amazon customers give this stylish anti-fatigue mat a glowing overall rating of 4.6 out of 5 stars.

    TL;DR: Straightforward support at a budget-conscious price.

    Why We Recommend It

I became a standing desk convert about a decade ago and use a sit-to-stand seat that includes a cushioned footbed.

However, I discovered, almost immediately, that I much prefer the cushion and give of the Union & Scale FlexFit Standing Mat to what I’d been using.

    Cons

    • Lackluster design

    • No bells and whistles

The rectangular FlexFit mat comes in one color, black, and one size: 33.2-by-19.4 inches. It isn’t loud or flashy, but the straightforwardness of this mat is what makes it so appealing.

The polyurethane foam is about 0.7 inches thick, the backing contains an anti-slip coating, and it’s surprisingly easy to keep clean.

The FlexFit Standing Mat offers plenty of space to shift positions.

It’s also generously sized and soft yet firm enough to switch positions while still feeling supported.

I noticed a huge difference after the first two days of continued use at my standing desk. I moved more and felt much less fatigued overall.

For anyone starting out with a sit-to-stand setup or dipping their toes into standing during desk or other work, this mat is well worth its affordable asking price.

    • Who else recommends it? This mat is under the radar on many best-of lists, but our first-hand experience helps us recommend this mat to anyone looking for standing support on a budget.
    • What do buyers think? On Staples, the Union & Scale FlexFit receives an average 4.75 stars out of 5 stars, with ample praise for its ability to reduce foot and leg achiness.

    What to Look For

All quality anti-fatigue mats worth considering should feature an anti-fatigue foam material typically around .75 inches thick, a non-slip base, and a beveled edge for tripping prevention.

Beyond those essentials, shopping for the right anti-fatigue mat for you comes down to many personal preferences around comfort, design, and price point:

    • Support Level: All anti-fatigue mats should offer a considerable amount of cushioning to keep your feet comfortable, but the balance between firmness and comfort depends on your preference. Consider whether you prefer something cushy with more give or less movement.
    • Ergonomics and Shape: Ergonomic features play a significant role in the amount of support you’ll find in a standing mat. Anti-fatigue mats like the ErgoDriven Topo Mat have nooks and crannies that might be more conducive to moving around and reducing fatigue. But having enough space to move around can also make a difference, especially if you’re taller.
    • Price Point and Design: Most anti-fatigue mats tend to be very lackluster design-wise, but if you find an appealing look important, an option like the House of Noa Nama Standing Mat could provide a happy middle ground. Either way, more attractive and feature-rich (think higher-end materials and ergonomic touches) will add more to the bill.
