We can’t help but rejoice when our go-to restaurants and fast food joints bring back the popular items we love. Who wasn’t pumped when the Quesarito mounted a comeback at Taco Bell? And when Burger King revived its Maple Bourbon BBQ Whopper, everyone was onboard.
Recently, Wendy’s brought back its Thin Mints Frosty after a successful debut last year, and now it has one other item returning that we’re especially excited about. Why? Because it’s editor-approved and only back for a limited time.
Wendy’s Crispy Panko Fish Sandwich Returns
Wendy’s Crispy Panko Fish Sandwich has made its return to menus nationwide as of Feb. 17, but is only here for a limited time. This fan-favorite sandwich features panko-breaded wild-caught Alaskan pollock, dill tartar sauce, lettuce, cheese, and pickles, all served on a soft bun. The Crispy Panko Fish Sandwich is available now just in time for Lent, the 40-day period prior to Easter wherein Catholics abstain from eating meat on Fridays.
And while the fish sandwich is not the only one on the market—Arby’s just brought back its King’s Hawaiian Fish Deluxe Sandwich and Culver’s walleye sandwich and dinner have returned—the Wendy’s fish sandwich stands in a league of its own. In our initial fast food fish sandwich taste test the sandwich took top spot, with our taster remarking that the fish was “perfectly crispy” with “my favorite tartar sauce of the day.” On our second time around, it took 5th spot—still in the top of the 11 sandwiches we sampled.
When the Lenten season rolls around, Wendy’s Crispy Panko Fish Sandwich is the go-to for Allrecipes editor Bailey Fink. “The dill-flavored tartar sauce and the dill pickles on Wendy’s fish sandwich set it above and beyond its competitors. It’s the only fish sandwich I ever crave—even after Lent is over,” she says.
Pricing can vary depending on where you live but according to the Wendy’s website, the Crispy Panko Fish Sandwich should cost around $6. And while there’s no word on how long it will last, chances are the sandwich will stick around until just after Easter. So if you want to give one of our top picks for fish sandwich a try, it’s best to do so quickly before it’s too late.
