A bad can opener can hurt wrists and leave jagged edges. A really bad can opener can’t even puncture a can. A great can opener, on the other hand, latches on easily, cuts through metal readily, and doesn’t strain your wrists. The Kitchen Mama electric can opener isn’t just good; it’s the best. And it does all the work for you.

    Why It’s Great

I recently tested can openers (updated review forthcoming!), and the most common style has two handles and two cutters that engage and slice when you turn a dial on the side. Sometimes turning that dial feels akin to cranking a fishing line with a 20-pound striper on the other end. (Read: It’s hard on the wrists.)

Not the Kitchen Mama. This electric can opener, which kinda looks like a computer mouse, slices off lids at the touch of a button— you don’t even need to hold the can steady as it whirrs and spins. The Kitchen Mama cuts the cans just below the lid, too, leaving a smooth edge and reducing the risk of injury while you make dinner. Plus, it’s only $30—a steal for a can opener that does all the hard work for you.

Other Kitchen Gadgets That Make Life Easier

    • It’s worth having two (or more) of these OXO mini liquid measuring cups—they pour neatly and have measurements in ounces, milliliters, and tablespoons.
    • A Y-peeler, like our winner from Kuhn Rikon, makes peeling anything fast and easy.
    • Get a bench scraper, and I promise it’ll change your life. Yes, they’re great for cutting dough, but they also make it really easy to clean off debris from a cutting board or scoop up a pile of veggies.
