Pillsbury has a way of making retro favorites feel new again. Its famous Grands cinnamon rolls—a brand staple for decades—have been reformulated to bake straight from frozen, while its new pistachio cake mix feels perfectly suited for a vintage cake stand. Time and time again, the brand shows it knows how to tap into nostalgia while still keeping things fresh.
Now, Pillsbury is cracking open the food time capsule yet again. With its newest launch, the brand is hitting the sweet spot between novelty for younger fans and nostalgia for longtime customers—reviving the spirit of a beloved before-school breakfast from the 2000s that many thought they’d never see again.
Pillsbury Launches New Mini Bagels
Pillsbury has just introduced a brand-new, first-of-its-kind breakfast item—but if it looks weirdly familiar, you’re not alone. They’re called Mini Bagels: tear-apart mini bagel bites with a sweet cream cheese filling inside.
And yes, we know what you’re thinking—are those Bagel-fuls? Not exactly. The original Kraft-made heat-and-eat Bagel-fuls were a true breakfast icon of the 2000s. They had a long, rectangular shape, came individually wrapped, and were filled with Philadelphia cream cheese in flavors like Original, Strawberry, Cinnamon & Brown Sugar, and Chive.
Those original stuffed bagels are still talked about to this day: “They were god himself in culinary form,” one fan reminisced on Reddit. “The absolute perfect thing to eat on my way to school and bring for day trips.”
Pillsbury’s version takes a slightly different approach. Each pouch of the new Mini Bagels contains a pull-apart bagel made up of four pieces—very similar to the shape of Pillsbury’s Mini Cinnis. They’re debuting in just two flavors, Cinnamon and Strawberry, and can be eaten heated or thawed.
But despite the differences, the appeal is exactly the same. The Mini Bagels offer the same convenience and comfort that made stuffed bagels a school-morning staple in the first place—and fans seem more than happy to embrace any modern reincarnation of the Y2K classic they can get.
“Omg. I’m screaaaaming. I miss bagel-fuls so bad and this will help fill that void!!!” one fan shared. “Would have those mini bagels for our middle school breakfast—I’ve been waiting for this day for years,” added another.
While they’re new to grocery stores, Pillsbury’s Mini Bagels may already look familiar. The product has been available through food service companies for some time, which is why many people recognize them from school cafeterias or public food facilities. But now, they’re finally making their way to store shelves—meaning you can enjoy them at any age, even if your school days are long behind you.
So if you’ve been craving stuffed bagels since childhood, or you want to try out the trend you might’ve missed, this is your best chance. Look for Pillsbury Mini Bagels in the freezer section at Kroger, with a larger nationwide rollout expected later in March.
After all, if Pillsbury can make sourdough baking cool again, there’s almost nothing from the past it can’t revive.
