There’s no need to have more than one app for breaking news, local news, world news, and more. Instead, you can use a news aggregator or news feed app to read news from the sources that matter most to you.

This article features some of our favorite news apps for iPhone users to try.

If you click on links we provide, we may receive compensation.

    What We Like

    • Follow global news by category.

    • Receive new updates as news unfolds.

    • Still includes local news.

    What We Don’t Like

    • Content doesn’t change to fit preferences.

    • Repetitive content is a possibility.

    • Some news stories still have banner ads.

If you’re looking for the best way to see global news, as well as news happening around you, Google News is the best choice. The app includes a specific World tab, as well as tabs for the latest headlines in several categories. You can also follow your own topics and sources, carefully organized in the Favorites section.

Google News allows you to save articles for later and share them with others via email, social media, and beyond. The app is completely free to download and use.

    What We Like

    • Find breaking news and cute cat videos.

    • Chat with others about important topics to you.

    • Contribute your thoughts.

    What We Don’t Like

    • Busy and somewhat hard to navigate.

    • Hard to get used to for casual Reddit users.

    • News selection isn’t as robust as other apps on this list.

Yes, Reddit offers more than GIFs and memes. In fact, you can find breaking news tailored to fit your preferences inside the Reddit app. Plus, you can share your thoughts about a certain news story or topic as well as read the thoughts of hundreds of others.

Reddit users promote content that matters the most through upvotes. This means you’ll see what news stories and content are trending in your circle fast. Reddit is free to download but offers a premium subscription for $6.99 per month. This subscription removes ads and gives you access to the r/lounge.

    What We Like

    • Follow categories, publishers, and more.

    • Streamlined visually appealing interface.

    • Combines news from top global news outlets.

Just like any other Apple tool, Apple News is beautiful to look at and extremely easy to use. Inside the app, you’ll find news curated to fit your preferences, learned from an algorithm running in the background as you read and indulge in content.

You’ll also find trending stories from around the internet and a place for you to follow all of your favorite channels, topics, and stories.

Although you must subscribe to Apple News+ for a monthly fee (after a one-month free trial) to read magazines and newspapers, finding both global and local news fast is free using the app.

    What We Like

    • Article accompanied with stunning visual.

    • Create, share magazines around passions/interests.

    • Easy-to-use interface.

Flipboard allows you to “flip” news stories and create your own magazines of curated content to share with followers and to save for later. The app also showcases new stories and articles from a wide range of industries and interests. Each article includes stunning visuals, including photos, infographics, and more.

The interface is extremely easy to use, with plenty of whitespace to give your eyes a break. Although some unpopular channels may lie dormant, there’s plenty of news for you to consume. Flipboard is completely free to use.

    What We Like

    • Instantly view local news as soon as you open the app.

    • Current local weather conditions/forecast.

    • View national news in addition to local news.

It’s nice to know what’s happening in your area, as well as around the country and the globe. NewsBreak delivers local news and headlines using your location. You can also view the current weather and the forecast inside the app.

There are other sections on the app, including Entertainment, Technology, Politics, and more, that you can view depending on your preferences. This app currently showcases ads, but it’s completely free to download.

    What We Don’t Like

    • After free trial, you must have a subscription.

    • Must manually turn off sources you don’t want in feed.

    • Stories refreshed slower than other news apps.

Inkl is on a mission to provide the “best news experience” available by removing ads and saving you from clickbait articles that waste your time. Using the app, you can find human-curated stories, including those curated just for you, based on your preferences.

Want to read something lighthearted and happy? The Good News tab shares the news you’re looking for. Inkl combines news sources from all over the world, with a vast array of topics to follow. You’ll need to purchase a subscription after your free two-week trial, though.

    What We Like

    • Save articles for later using bookmarks.

    • Sort your publications into easy to find topics.

    • Me and Explore tabs make searching easy.

    What We Don’t Like

    • New Feedly interface more difficult to use than classic.

    • A bit of a learning curve when using Feedly as a beginner.

    • Local news isn’t a priority.

Feedly is another one of the most popular news aggregators available for iPhone users. This app allows you to see all the top stories from your favorite publications, blogs, YouTube channels, and anyone you wish to follow with an RSS feed.

Plus, all articles can be saved easily by tapping the bookmark icon. Do you use Evernote or Pocket? You can integrate the app with Feedly to make saving your articles a breeze. You can use both the You tab to view curated articles personalized to you, as well as the Discover tab to find trending news.

    What We Don’t Like

    • The interface is very busy.

    • Must sift a bit to find the highest quality sources.

    • Can’t search for stories inside the app.

SmartNews is one of the most popular news apps available for iOS devices. It offers readers the chance to stay up to date with all of the trending news stories from around the world. Add tabs from news channels such as CNN and Fox, as well as interesting finds such as National Geographic. Your tabs stay at your fingertips.

Although you must sift to find the highest quality sources, SmartNews offers something for everyone. It’s free to download and use on your iPhone.
