How to Watch Baseball With MLB.TV
Blackouts, or game restrictions, impact all of the MLB.TV subscription packages.
MLB.TV offers a free trial, so you can test it out to be sure you’re happy with the offerings. There are a few paid options that offer games live and on-demand.
The subscription runs (in normal seasons) from March through October. It does not include World Series games.
To sign up, follow these steps:
Go to MLB.com to sign up.
Select Buy Now or Start Free Trial next to the plan you’re interested in. Scroll down the page for Single Team and other packages.
Follow the on-screen prompts to fill out the new user form and complete the registration.
Next, you’ll be guided through a few questions about your favorite team, and you’ll be ready to watch games.
Where to Stream Major League Baseball Online (Free)
If you only want to catch a game or two, signing up for a free trial with a streaming service that offers baseball is the quickest and easiest solution.
Some streaming providers offering free trials with baseball access are:
You can even travel and get access to your regional games using some of these services. Each one will vary, so if you plan on traveling much, check with customer service to confirm how to watch your favorite team while out of town.
To do it yourself, the most reliable option for a full season of free baseball on your trusty television is to go with an antenna. Even then, you’ll only be able to watch local games. But if that’s all you need, buy an antenna and tune it to your local NBC station showing the game.
If you prefer to catch games on your PC or phone, you’ll need a TV tuner for your computer to watch free over-the-air digital TV stations. You’ll need to subscribe to a streaming service to watch on your phone.
How to Watch Baseball With a Streaming Service
If you go with a streaming provider, you can watch any baseball game playing on channels your service and selected plan offers.
Streaming services showing baseball games include fubo TV, Hulu + Live TV, Sling TV, and YouTube TV.
You’ll need to purchase the live portion of the streaming service. Hulu, for instance, offers an inexpensive next-day television offering, but you can’t watch live baseball using that plan. Instead, subscribe to Hulu + Live TV to ensure you can watch games in real time.
Each service has different pricing. Select a plan that includes the live baseball games you want and other television services that make sense for you. Once you’re signed up, tune in to the game you want.
Be careful when you select a streaming provider. Some games might only be available on ESPN, and if your service or plan doesn’t include ESPN, you’re out of luck for that particular game.
Verify that your streaming service of choice currently offers the games you want to watch because, with MLB’s blackout rules, content can be harder to access.
