    Key Takeaways

    • This microwave popcorn offers a buttery flavor that’s rich yet not overpowering.
    • The popcorn is ready in about three minutes and is made with only four organic ingredients.
    • The versatile snack works well in both savory and sweet DIY mixes.

Whether I’ve just enjoyed a quick weeknight meal or dinner out, I almost always get the hankering for a snack as I tuck in to read or watch TV before bed. And when that snack craving comes knocking, nothing is easier, more versatile, or as delicious as a steaming bag of microwave popcorn.

This practice was instilled in me at an early age as I remember my mom reading a book with a bag of freshly popped corn most nights after dinner. Over the years, I’ve tried many different microwave popcorn brands, and through trial and error, I’ve discovered that fancy brand names (and equally fancy prices) are not always the best. Read on to discover my favorite brand of microwave popcorn.

    Simply Recipes / Whole Foods

365 by Whole Foods Market Organic Buttery Flavor Popcorn

    • Price: $5.49 for six bags
    • Why I Love It: It’s perfectly buttery and crunchy, and it contains just four ingredients.

My Favorite Brand of Microwave Popcorn

When it comes down to it, my number one brand of microwave popcorn is 365 by Whole Foods Market Organic Buttery Flavor. Since I already frequent the store, I figured I’d try their store-brand popcorn a few years ago, and I was so pleasantly surprised that I never looked back.

This quick convenience item is head and shoulders above the rest for various reasons. It offers just the right amount of buttery flavor without overpowering, and every kernel is as crunchy and satisfying as the last. Plus, each bag pops up to more than a single evening snack’s worth of kernels (for me), making it a great value. Also, it’s ready in three minutes or less, boasts only four ingredients, and is organic!

It’s a bonus that this popcorn seamlessly works in a variety of DIY snack mixes, allowing my inner culinary creativity to run wild. While I love enjoying this popcorn hot and steamy fresh from the bag, I often make additions to it or use it in a snack mix.

Some nights, I’m feeling a savory scenario with any combination of pretzels, mixed nuts, cheese crackers, unsweetened cereal, grated cheese, Tajín, chili crisp, ranch or taco seasoning, dried Italian seasoning, nutritional yeast, onion powder, or garlic powder. If my sweet tooth has reared its head, I’ll mix in options like chocolate candies, gummies, dried fruit, chocolate chips, nuts, sprinkles, cookie crumbs, sweetened cereal, cinnamon, and maybe even a drizzle of hot fudge or caramel.

I’ll make these mixes to be enjoyed fresh the same evening, or sometimes I’ll whip up big batches and bake them off (before adding any chocolate products) for a shelf-stable treat when I’m on the go or heading out for a hike. The options for enjoying this popcorn after a long day (or any time) are truly only limited by your imagination!
