Byte-Sized Brief
- NordVPN adds automatic email link scanning.
- It flags phishing, malware, and scam URLs in real time.
- It focuses on links only. Email content remains private.
NordVPN has brought email link scanning to Threat Protection Pro for macOS and Windows. The feature checks every visible link when you open a message in a supported browser.
If a URL has a history of phishing or malware, a red shield icon pops up next to the link as a warning. A banner also summarizes the problem, so you can understand what’s happening right away—for instance, it might say “Scam” or “Malware.”
The red shield indicates threatening links in your emails.
Nord Security
The company says the feature scans only links and does not read the rest of your message. When possible, these checks happen directly on your device, with only the link sent for reputation lookups when needed.
Threat Protection Pro is included in the NordVPN Plus, Complete, and Prime tiers. Select the shield icon in the menu to open its settings and switch features on and off.
The tool is built into Threat Protection Pro and turns on automatically when you update to the latest version of NordVPN, but you can disable it in the settings.
The Bottom Line
NordVPN now checks the links inside your emails as soon as you open them, and flags anything tied to phishing or malware.
