Outfitting your home takes a lot of effort. Everyone has their own particular style that they want to impart on their abode, as making it feel like their own space is important. Even if you have the bare minimum in terms of furniture, it’s still considered a minimalistic style, and you have, in fact, made a style choice to keep it that way.

One of the more well-known and affordable furniture companies around the world is IKEA. The Swedish store has been helping homeowners style their homes for years with many types of wood and metal furniture for all kinds of looks. What you might not expect from IKEA is its good array of smart home gadgets. In typical IKEA fashion, a lot of those devices are on the affordable side, making it a great place to shop if you’re looking to upgrade the tech in your home.

    Lighting is a top option

There are many ways to add smart lights to your home

Something about IKEA products is that they are made to be linked to one another. If you want to control a smart bulb, you may want a smart hub or a motion sensor.

One of the top categories for smart home devices at IKEA is lighting. Smart home lighting is one of the most popular ways to add some automation to your home, as you can set lights to turn on at certain times or use remote controls to avoid having to physically turn the switch on a light.

Many people will add smart bulbs to their lamps and other lights to upgrade their options. Having a smart bulb means that you can potentially control it from an app on your phone or with your voice, giving you the chance to turn on lights when you aren’t near.

IKEA’s TRÅDFRI light bulb line is an LED bulb that can be controlled by either phone or other smart home gadgets. You can get one ranging from 450 to 1,100 lumens in all kinds of shapes and sizes. You can choose between one that offers a warm white light and one that is multicolored. The smart bulb is dimmable and works with a number of different products along the company’s smart home line.

The line also comes with a TRÅDFRI starter kit, which gives you a smart bulb and a STYRBAR remote control. They are pre-programmed to work together, so you can simply screw the bulb in and start using the remote to control it.

While TRÅDFRI is the company’s main light bulb, it has plenty of lights available for purchase. The MITTLED is a strip light, and the STOFTMOLN is a ceiling lamp. Want a square light for your wall? The JETSTRÖM is a panel light that can be turned into many different colors. All the lights at IKEA are dimmable, making them easy to control and to use to set the mood.

The smart hub is what controls them all

You’re going to need one if you’re serious about a smart home

The DIRIGERA smart hub is one of the key pieces of equipment you’re going to want to consider getting if you want to use IKEA smart home gadgets. It basically makes everything run smoother, being a central place for all of your devices to connect to.

The DIRIGERA helps your devices to communicate with one another. It works with the Matter protocol, allowing the devices to connect and respond to commands. With the smart hub, you can control devices separately or together. Because of this, the DIRIGERA allows other smart devices in the home to connect with other Matter-enabled devices, even ones that aren’t made by IKEA. So, if you don’t want your entire house to be IKEA products, you can still connect them together with IKEA devices through the DIRIGERA hub.

IKEA devices can be controlled with a remote, a phone app, through the hub, or with buttons directly on the devices. In order to set schedules or automations for your smart devices, the DIRIGERA is what your devices need to be connected to. Being able to automate your smart home is one of the best ways to get the most out of your devices. If you don’t want to automate them, you can still control them with ease through the hub.

It’s important to know that you will need to connect to a smart speaker in order to use voice commands with your devices. You can connect the DIRIGERA hub to the smart speakers to control it through voice commands. By doing this, you will also be connecting all the devices that work with the DIRIGERA as well.

Boost your speaker setup with IKEA

If you want to use your DIRIGERA hub with a smart speaker, the pair of SYMFONISK Sonos Wi-Fi bookshelf speakers makes a lot of sense. Not only are they slim and can fit on bookshelves, but they also have strong sound and can be placed alongside your TV or stereo.

For music purposes, you can connect these to Spotify, Apple Music, and more. You can also control your smart devices with voice commands through them. You will need another smart home integration in terms of a voice assistant to wake them up, meaning you’ll have to connect it through something like Amazon or Apple’s smart home landscape.

But they also work with the Sonos app, as well as the IKEA smart home app. Because they are speakers first and not smart home gadgets as their main function, the sound quality is strong. They serve multiple purposes in your home.

Keep your air clean……with a table?

This is one of the more unique items I’ve seen

While IKEA has common smart devices, like lights, hubs, and controllers, it also has some that are unusual. The STARKVIND is a table with a top diameter of 21″ and a height of 22″. It comes in a stained oak veneer, available in white or dark brown. The bottom portion of the table is an air purifier.

Turning the STARKVIND into auto mode makes it automatically test the air and, depending on how the particles are, it will adjust the speed of the purifier, either speeding up the purifying or keeping it level. It can remove harmful particles like tobacco smoke, dust, and pollen.

By hooking it up to the DIRIGERA or the IKEA smart home app, you can automate or schedule your air purifier to turn on. You’re also able to control the speed of the fan from anywhere. Setting this up on a schedule means you can run it when you’re in the room that it’s in, giving you cleaner air to breathe.

There is an LED light built into the STARKVIND, giving you more uses out of it. Plus, it’s a table that can be an end table or provide another use.

It’s worth checking out IKEA for smart home gadgets

IKEA is known for its impressive lineup of furniture, and the smart home devices that it has are no exception. They all serve extra purposes around your home, making them worth serious consideration. If you’re trying to build a smart home, there are plenty of gadgets from IKEA that make sense to look into.
