Finding power tools for personal use isn’t always the easiest task. It can be hard to know what is the right tool for the job you have. Plus, you may not want to buy a tool if you’re only going to use it once and then never again. Reading reviews online can be a bit of a gamble, as it’s hard to know if your use case is the same as other people’s.

Milwaukee is one of the top brands for power tools on the market today. They are made for durability and are professional-grade tools for both professionals and DIYers. They are definitely meant more for the trades rather than home projects, but that doesn’t mean you can’t use them for projects at home. Milwaukee has an extensive tool lineup and some of the tools are underrated in how they are utilized. Some tools can be useful for both professionals and the average homeowner.

Get your doors and wood surfaces in shape with a planer

This was something I recently saw in action

My wife and I made some big changes to our home recently. We had to convert my office into a nursery as we await the arrival of a new child. Part of the process included replacing the closet doors in the soon-to-be nursery. Each bedroom in the house had sliding closet doors that were old and weren’t incredibly useful. We needed to save space, so we moved a dresser into the closet and, rather than leave the closet without doors, we wanted to put hinged doors on.

To do so, I took down the tracks and doors for the old closets, and we went to the store and purchased new closet doors for each bedroom. We figured we might as well just knock them all out at once if we were going to do it. We bought traditional 24″ wide closet doors. But because they were previously sliding doors, they overlapped for about an inch. So each one of the doors we’d purchased was an inch too big to fit perfectly in the door.

We have a handyman that we use from time to time and we asked him to come and bore the doors and install them for us. In order to do so, he used the Milwaukee M12 12V Lithium-Ion Brushless Cordless 2 in. Planer to quickly shave off the small amount of door that was needed to fit it into our opening. He used the planer to do the work and make it smooth. He was able to fly through these and wasn’t tied down by any cords while doing so. This offers two carbide blades and the motor is powerful, so cutting through the wood was simple.

It didn’t take up much space at all, so it easily fit in his truck. He was able to adjust the settings to get the right depth with just a few turns. I hadn’t used a plane since shop class back in high school, so it was nice to see it in action many years later.

Speed through tightening your screws with a cordless screwdriver

It ends blisters on your palms

Any person who has ever had to assemble furniture, install curtains, or do countless other tasks around a home has put screwdrivers to good use. There are all kinds of screwdrivers, from flat head to Phillips head and more, that can handle specific jobs inside or outside. While professionals may use a cordless drill / driver to handle the bulk of work in larger areas, they also may not be able to have the space for that large of a tool.

Rather than having to use a manual screwdriver on the inner parts of machines, a cordless screwdriver like the Milwaukee M4 4V Lithium-Ion 1/4 in. Cordless Hex Screwdriver can come to the rescue. This has a slim profile, making it easy to fit into tighter spaces. What’s particularly impressive about this is that there are 21 different positions that you can set it to, helping you cover all kinds of angles. This is what will get you into those strange crevices that you need to work in.

It delivers 44 pounds of torque, handling the toughest driving jobs. It can’t be understated how something like this can reduce fatigue. While a high-power tool like this is not right for many household jobs, there are plenty where it can come in handy. It has a quick-change chuck that makes bit changes with one hand possible. The battery gauge is shown on the device itself, so you can know how long it has before it needs to be recharged.

Clear away your area with a precision blower

This lets you see what you’re working on

Cleaning up a job site is a part of the work. But sometimes, you need to clean it up right away without moving dust, metal, or other pieces of debris in a certain direction. This is especially true if you’re doing work near an HVAC system and don’t want to potentially get anything in it.

So, if you’re drilling through metal and some metal fragments fall to the side, blowing them away with a Milwaukee M18 18V Lithium-Ion 570 MPH Brushless Cordless Precision Blower can safely remove them from the area. Using a large leaf blower or even something like a Shop-Vac to clean up the area can be effective. But if you are worried about spreading the debris, you need something with more precision.

This blower is thin and can fit into tight spaces to keep them clean. There are three different power modes to use with air speeds reaching up to 570 MPH. This will get rid of the most stubborn debris possible to allow you to keep working safely.

There is an LED light that turns on when it runs, letting you see into small crevices and tight areas. It comes with interchangeable nozzles to provide more function. It only weighs two pounds, making it easy to hold as you’re trying to use it at an awkward angle. Plus, there’s a trigger lock, so you don’t have to keep the button pushed yourself to work it. This precision blower can run for up to 30 minutes on a single charge, which is a long time considering you’re likely only going to be using it for short spurts.

Get better illumination with a neck light

This is ideal for working in garages

Make it so you can see what you’re doing with the Milwaukee 400 Lumen LED Around The Neck Work Light. This wraps around your neck to provide you with an upward or downward angle. It’s versatile for different tasks while you’re working in tough areas like under a car or inside the hood.

This lets you see inside small areas better and eliminates the need to hold a flashlight or even a penlight. It’s better than a headlamp as well for looking downward and frees up your hands to do the work it needs. This reaches 400 lumens of brightness, giving it good reach, and is chargeable with a USB-C cable, which is included.

It has a durable build, as it can withstand drops from six feet. Plus, it is IP54 rated for water and dust resistance.

This is a one-size-fits-all light, but you are able to adjust it to fit your neck.

Milwaukee tools can handle a lot of jobs

Milwaukee tools are professional grade options that are good for the trades as well as some household tasks. These deliver on quality and durability and Milwaukee tools tend to last a long time. Whether you’re working with drywall, wood, or sheet metal, there are options of underrated Milwaukee tools that can get the job done.
